Surface Preparation, Painting & Marking of Industrial Pipe Fittings

Protective Coating and Marking Solutions for Long-Lasting Industrial Performance

Shot blasting is a crucial surface preparation process used to remove impurities like surface scale from industrial pipe fittings, enhancing their appearance and ensuring optimal coating adhesion.

Shot Blasting is carried out under sealed conditions, with vacuum devices and automatic painting. It is a highly efficient automatic assembly line operation. Its advantages mainly include the following aspects:

  • The specified derusting level can be cleaned according to the use of steel, and a uniform finished surface can be obtained;
  • Closed operation, no dust flying;
  • Fast speed, high efficiency and stable quality. It can be used to adjust the abrasive thickness, compressed air pressure, shot blasting time to achieve different shot polishing and cleaning quality.

Painting and Marking

Each fitting shall be legibly and conspicuously stamped in accordance with MSS-SP-25 along with special condition like “IBR”, “Cryo”, “NACE” and “H2” etc. Steel die marking with round bottom punch may be permitted on body of butt weld CS and lower alloy steel fittings, but for SS & higher alloy steel fittings, the same should be marked by electro-etching only. Paint or ink for marking shall not contain any harmful metals or metal salts such as Zinc, Lead or Copper which causes corrosive attack on heating. Fittings shall be dry, clean and free of moisture, dirt and loose foreign materials of any kind. Fittings shall be protected from rust, corrosion and mechanical damage during transportation, shipment and storage. Rust preventive shall be applied. These when used on machined surfaces to be welded shall be easily removable with a petroleum solvent and the same shall not be harmful to welding. Fittings under “IBR”, “Cryo”, “NACE” and “H2” shall be painted in red, light purple, canary yellow and sea green stripes respectively for easy identification. Width of stripe shall be 25mm.
Marking for smls fittings shall be in accordance with ITP and the other requirement of project.

Each Fittings shall be marked to show the following :
  • Project name & Project number
  • Purchase order and Item MESC number.
  • Manufacturer's name or trademark -(LPF Logo)
  • Material identification ,either the ASTM or ASME grade designation
  • Schedule number or nominal wall thickness in mm or class grade
  • Size- the nominal pipe size(NPS) identification number related to the end connections shall be used
  • Manufacturer's standard -for example MNF/ASME B16.9 / MSS SP 75 etc
  • Heat number-Heat No as per respective Material Test Certificate
  • Special condition- like”SOUR” or “LT” as per the requirement etc
  • PMI OK (suitable for stainless steel fittings & ferritic / austenitic steels)PMI OK
  • MADE IN CHINA

Finished product marking is the ultimate embodiment of material traceability, which is convenient for customers to quickly find and distinguish materials on site. All performance and other information can be traced back.

One type of paint is used for sea transportation to prevent rust, using factory standard paint; the other type is used for on-site anti-corrosion, using Epoxy, FBE, 3PE, etc. required by customers. When the surface meets the requirements, spray with air or airless.
